We are all just a ripple, but together we can create change

[HERO] We are all just a ripple, but together we can create change

Have you ever stood at the edge of a perfectly still lake and tossed a small pebble into the water? You know exactly what happens next. The stone hits the surface with a tiny “plink,” and for a second, it seems like nothing much changed. Yet, within moments, those ripples begin to travel. They move further and further from the center, touching parts of the shore that the pebble itself never could have reached.

In our lives, especially when we are navigating the heavy waters of grief or trying to make sense of a chaotic world, we often feel like that single pebble. We look at the scale of the problems around us and think, “What can I possibly do? I’m just one person.” We feel small, insignificant, and sometimes even powerless.

Yet, the truth is that we are all pebbles and we are the creators of the ripples.

The Power of the Single Act

When we talk about community support and finding hope after loss, we often look for the grand gesture. We wait for a massive shift or a heroic moment to change everything. Yet, resilience isn’t usually built in the “big” moments. It’s built in the tiny, quiet choices we make every day.

It’s the choice to send a text to a friend who is struggling, even if you don’t know the “perfect” thing to say. It’s the choice to share your story of loss so that someone else feels less alone. These actions might feel like small ripples, yet they have a way of finding people right when they need them most. Kindness is a catalyst. When you put a little bit of good out into the world, you never truly know where those ripples end.

From Individual Ripples to Collective Waves

There is a beautiful quote often attributed to Mother Teresa: “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.”

This is the heartbeat of my public Speaking. When we face tragedy, the weight can feel impossible to carry alone. Yet, when a community comes together, something incredible happens. Those individual ripples start to overlap. They connect. They gain momentum.

When my family faced our hardest days, it wasn’t one single thing that pulled us through. It was the collective impact of hundreds of people making small, kind choices. It was the friends who brought meals, the people who sat in silence with us, and the strangers who offered prayers or just bought me a coffee to show I was not alone. Individually, those were ripples. Together, they were a wave of support that kept us afloat.

Creating Change Through Resilience

Creating change doesn’t mean you have to have all the answers. In fact, most of the time, we’re all just figuring it out as we go. Resilience isn’t about being “tough” or “unbreakable”; it’s about being willing to keep moving forward, even when the current is against you.

When we choose to find purpose in our pain, we aren’t just helping ourselves heal. We are sending out a ripple of hope to everyone watching. We are showing the world that even though life can be incredibly hard, it is still possible to create something meaningful.

You might feel like you are just a ripple today. You might feel like your contribution is too small to matter. Yet, I want to encourage you to keep casting your stones. Keep showing up for your community. Keep choosing kindness. Keep sharing your light.

We don’t have to change the whole world by ourselves. We just have to be willing to start the ripple. When we do that together, there is no limit to the change we can create.
